Mass elevation effect and continentality have a stronger impact on global treelines than spatial isolation

چکیده

Aim The global relationship between treeline elevation and temperature (or latitude as a proxy) is well established. However, additional large-scale regional abiotic influences such mass effect (MEE), continentality isolation are superimposed onto the latitude-treeline relationship. To quantify these effects, we apply globally applicable measures test effects of MEE, an aspect continental climate on elevation. Location Global elevations (n = 629). Methods We sampled sites using earth observation. calculated MEE distance to nearest mountain chain limits. Continentality was assessed by coastline. Isolation another within comparable elevational band. Results latitudinal pattern showed distinct bimodal Treeline increased substantially with coastlines while even decreased elevations. Main Conclusions Our study shows consistent coastline elevation, contributing our basic understanding biogeographic processes governing formation. reduce cloudiness increase solar radiation, resulting in higher not may be influenced immigration speciation. Understanding formation comprehensive contributes better how environmental conditions determine vegetation boundaries at large spatial scales.

Common dysfunctional variants of ABCG2 have stronger impact on hyperuricemia progression than typical environmental risk factors

Gout/hyperuricemia is a common multifactorial disease having typical environmental risks. Recently, common dysfunctional variants of ABCG2, a urate exporter gene also known as BCRP, are revealed to be a major cause of gout/hyperuricemia. Here, we compared the influence of ABCG2 dysfunction on serum uric acid (SUA) levels with other typical risk factors in a cohort of 5,005 Japanese participants...

Cheetahs have a stronger constitutive innate immunity than leopards

As a textbook case for the importance of genetics in conservation, absence of genetic variability at the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) is thought to endanger species viability, since it is considered crucial for pathogen resistance. An alternative view of the immune system inspired by life history theory posits that a strong response should evolve in other components of the immune syst...

Does suicide have a stronger association with seasonality than sunlight?

OBJECTIVES Suicide rates have widely been reported to peak in spring and summer. A frequent hypothesis is that increased sunlight exposure alters biological mechanisms. However, few attempts have been made to systematically untangle the putative suicidogenic risk of sunlight exposure from that of seasonality. We examined whether average hours of daily sunlight in a month confer additional risk ...

an investigation of the impact of self monitoring on langauge teachers motivational practice and its effect on learners motivation

the central purpose of this study was to conduct a case study about the role of self monitoring in teacher’s use of motivational strategies. furthermore it focused on how these strategies affected students’ motivational behavior. although many studies have been done to investigate teachers’ motivational strategies use (cheng & d?rnyei, 2007; d?rnyei & csizer, 1998; green, 2001, guilloteaux & d?...

Global migration can lead to stronger spatial selection than local migration.

The outcome of evolutionary processes depends on population structure. It is well known that mobility plays an important role in affecting evolutionary dynamics in group structured populations. But it is largely unknown whether global or local migration leads to stronger spatial selection and would therefore favor to a larger extent the evolution of cooperation. To address this issue, we quanti...
